Local Library: A New All-Ages Arts Space Housed at Central United Church!

Organized by two great and talented people who I work with at Cantos, Local Library uses two rooms on the second floor of Central (131 7 Avenue SW, Calgary) as well as other shared-use spaces in the church (like the gymnasium for shows). The basic programming includes all-ages shows, a visual arts gallery, ongoing workshops that span a variety of broadly 'arts' related topics, and an open studio program where anyone can drop by to work on and get help with their art/craft related projects. For a suggested small donation they can use the equipment we have in-house (such as sewing machines) and can get support from volunteers that are artists/craftspeople and know the equipment.

They are run as a volunteer group that's partnered with Central United Church to create a unique and secular program.  There is a newsletter sign-up on the Local Library website as well. Great way to bring artists of all types, both beginner and experienced, together to create and share some art love. Visit their site for info on volunteering, donating unwanted art/craft supplies and, also, save the date for March 20th --the official opening!
