Before & After, Father's Day Tribute: Foyer Project

I have one of those Dad's. You know, the kind that will drop everything to be there? All you have to do is ask. Dad has pick me up at 2am from high school parties gone wrong, drove 4 hours to just sit next to me while I cried over a failed relationship, spent his holidays helping me tear out flooring and walls and decks and, most recently, stayed the May long weekend to install chair rail in my foyer. He claims he "likes having something to do", but I know that this is what he feels is his "Dad duty" and reno projects are our thing that we have together. Ever since we laid pine flooring in my teenage bedroom... Happy Father's Day to my Dad and all the other awesome men who have stepped up to the plate to be there for their kids, no matter what.

After: The foyer with faux wood panelling painted "Cloud White" and the upper walls "Smokestack Grey", both by Benjamin Moore. Shelf built by Dad (of course!) and bird prints by Gwen Frostic.

After: Kudos to D who helped my Dad get that chair rail level. Then Dad and I installed pre-made rectangles of panel molding.  This is totally the way to go--saves tonnes of time and when everything is filled and painted out, looks just like traditional panelling. What a difference!
