New Work: Green and Brown Cats and Owls

Green Wall, Orange Cat, 12x12, oil on canvas, 2012. Collection of S. Lynass

Spent one afternoon doing a long awaited project: two little paintings for a friend's two nurseries. When the first baby was born, I promised a cat painting and now, three years later, there are two little girls. Oops! Better late than never!

And as I was taking photos of the paintings the two muses felt they should supervise...

Each piece contains a fabric remnant used by the girls' grandma to make quilts for their cribs. I collaged the fabric directly onto the canvas with acrylic gel medium  and based the colour palette around that. The paintings are truly unique to their bedrooms, but aren't too baby-ish so that hopefully they will grow with them. Needless to say, my friend was thrilled at the surprise package in the mail and I had a great afternoon doing a fun, no pressure project!
